Itinerary
Day 1 - Exploring Matsumoto’s Castle Town
Walking distance: About 3km
After arriving at Matsumoto Station and checking in at your accommodation, the tour begins with a tasting of locally brewed sake from Matsumoto and a short trip briefing. Then enjoy a guided walk through the historic castle town, visiting the exterior of Matsumoto Castle, traditional townhouses, craft shops, and clear spring-water channels that have supported local life for centuries.
Dinner will be at a local izakaya loved by residents, where you can experience the lively atmosphere of the city
Day 2 - Utsukushigahara Long Trail
Walking distance: approx. 17 km
Depart Matsumoto early and travel by chartered car to Utsukushigahara Highlands. Hike a quiet section of the trail across Mitsumine-yama and Hachibuse-yama, enjoying a spectacular 360° panorama of the Northern Alps (Japan), Yatsugatake Mountains, Mount Norikura, and even Mount Fuji on clear days.
After descending, relax at Tobira Onsen, a local tattoo-friendly hot spring, then celebrate the hike with a drink at the nearby eatery Kakesu—the perfect “Kakesu de Ippai.”
Day 3 - Free Day
Enjoy a full day at your leisure. Optional activities such as trekking, cycling, outdoor adventures, or cultural experiences in Matsumoto and the surrounding area can be arranged upon request. If you plan to travel to your next destination in the morning, transportation and accommodation arrangements can also be assisted.
